Lockout Tagout (LO/TO) Procedures - A Graphical Approach

Most environmental health and safety professionals are aware of the requirements of
lockout tagout procedures. Having an up-to-date procedure will get you past OSHA
inspection, but it may not be the best procedure for your employees. ESC Services,
Inc. is the industry leader in streamlining and developing clear and simple graphical
lockout tagout procedures.  When our clients look at our finished procedures they say
it's refreshing to know that the format is so easy that anyone should be able to
understand and use it.

Ideally, a lockout tagout procedure can be understood by anyone on the production
floor fairly easily.  Most often there will be certain employees responsible for carrying
out the procedure, but everyone needs to be able to look at the lockout tagout
procedure and understand it in the event of an emergency.

Contact ESC today and you'll be one step closer to having these world-class lockout
tagout procedures implemented in your facility.

Graphical Lockout Tagout Procedures by ESC

Many lockout tagout systems are terribly outdated and rely on old drawings to illustrate
a fairly complex system.  ESC uses the highest quality digital photos to provide clear
directions on its lockout tagout procedures. Using a variety of photographic
equipment, ESC can make a graphical procedure for even a hard-to-reach machine
located in a poorly lit area.

Graphical procedures are the next logical step for any modern lockout tagout system.
With ESC's format, it's easy for in-house personnel to take new photos as the
machines are updated and print out new procedures to keep the program up to date.
In addition to providing you with procedures that can stand up to any kind of work
environment, ESC Services, Inc. will keep your lockout tagout procedures up to date
and on top of OSHA regulations should you choose our
annual audit service.

New Lockout Tagout Procedures WILL save your company
money...

Many of our clients have claimed to have an ROI (Return on Investment) from our
service in less than one year because of insurance premium reductions alone.  It's not
just our service, it's the act of initiating a new OSHA compliant lockout tagout program
that allows companies to achieve such recognitions/certifications as VPP (VPPPA),
ISO14001, SHARP, or other certifications that insurance agencies recognize.  ESC
promises to make the creation of such a large program much easier to both initiate
and maintain.

In addition to savings from reduced insurance premiums, our lockout tagout
procedures will increase workplace safety, thus result in decreased accidents

Read the story below that shows how one company saved over $300,000 in their
annual insurance premiums.  They also had higher production uptime and virtually
eliminated costs associated with lost time worker accidents.  These results are typical
for companies who currently have an outdated lockout tagout program and update to
an OSHA compliant graphical lockout tagout program.

Cost Savings Story (Opens in new browser window)

A typical lockout tagout program for 100 procedures can be implemented in a turn-key
fashion by ESC for around $19,000 in as little as four weeks.  In that time, the cost
savings can be realized immediately from the following factors:

  1. Eliminated OSHA lockout tagout fines - Fines for the manufacturing sector
alone amount to nearly $3MM a year.
  2. Reduced Workers Compensation Claims - Workers compensation claims
from injuries while on the work site can be costly.  It's not uncommon for an
injury to cost a company over $100,000 per incident.  In addition there is a
claim filed against the workers compensation insurance program and rates
    may go up for years.
  3. Reduced insurance rates for worker/plant safety.  The reductions that result
from a new OSHA compliant lockout tagout program can be very significant.
Insurance companies recognize that a well implemented lockout tagout
program like ESC's means their client's workers will be safer and less likely to
be involved in an accident.  Insurance premiums are often reduced by 30% or
more which can translate into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

New lockout tagout procedure design - Injection Molding
Technology

ESC is proud to offer to its clients a proprietary injection molded design for the
graphical lockout tagout procedures.  The injection molded procedures are encased
in a special blend of 1/8" thick plastic that protects its graphical instructions from
harsh environments.  We tested this design against the harshest solvents and found
that nothing else on the market will offer comparable performance against solvents,
chemical wash downs, heat, and physical abuse.

This format is great for all applications but was initially created in response to our
client's requests for procedures that withstand the harsh UV resistance of outdoor
installation.  The injection molded, full color, graphical lockout tagout procedures have
been environmentally tested to last an industry dominating
10 years outdoors!  In
comparison, most normal 2-color signs don't last more than 5 years without fading or
cracking due to Ultraviolet Light (UV) and harsh weather (high winds, extreme cold,
extreme heat, etc.).

In addition to the double sided injection molded lockout tagout procedures, ESC offers
injection molded lockout tagout energy source tags for the very same reasons.  They
can be mounted on extreme heat situations (such as steam valves), outdoor, and
even in highly corrosive chemical environments.  They are the strongest multi-color
graphical tags we have ever encountered in the industry.

No other company offers a comparable level of service for such industry competitive
prices.

No Software to Install - Years of Worry Free Stability

There are many software packages that have come and gone over the years that try to
make creating lockout-tagout procedures easy, but the fact still remains it takes a
large amount of effort to create the procedures.

With a large labor investment made no matter what software foundation you choose, it
makes sense to
base it on something that you trust will be around over the next 10
years.  ESC has been utilizing MS Excel since 1999 and has never had one issue with
past procedures being accessible.  We choose Excel, because it's easy to
manipulate, easy to understand, and works on 99.9% of all computers already with
nothing to install.  Most ERP solutions support MS Excel attachments.

There's no sadder story than hearing from companies who chose an unstable
Lockout software program written by companies that are not software companies and
now all of their procedures are unreadable and inaccessible.  Imagine the costs when
you have to re-create all your procedures because the software you chose is not
compatible with the next MS Operating System.

Bottom line, no matter who you chose to create your procedures, choose MS Excel as
the platform and you won't regret it.
